Overall nice atmosphere and view from room was beautiful. Rooms were very nice clean. Needed a little more updating as carpets were stained and plastic walmart style chairs on balcony. Menu choices were very limited even though there were three resturants. The meals were very good though. If you have trouble with stairss or walking long distances they provide shuttle service down to pool beach area. Otherwise there is a very long staircase to go up down. A lot of iguanas around the pool area so if you dont like those beware. Plenty of pool beach lounges. Staff was very friendly too!

First off I would like to say my new wife and I were very pleased with our stay at Sugar Bay and wouldn't trade our experience there for anything!!! The staff was very pleasant and extremely friendly especially ABC in the pool bar, XYZ and ABC at front desk, XYZ at the Caribe and ABC at the pool. These people are what makes a difference and that is why we can't wait to go back!!! Yes, there were some things that could have been better such as the stairs to the pool but that was never an issue since there was a shuttle. We ate and drank all we wanted and never went hungry nor had bad food but some thems were better than other but you can have that anywhere. Our room was very clean and never had any complaints with bad housekeeping nor was our bed lumpy or uncomfortable. It was extremely COMFORTABLE!!! In closing we just want to let the staff at Sugar Bay know to keep up the good work and we hope we have the opportunity to come and enjoy the resort again. Thank you all so very much. abc and xyz

I was a little nervous about our stay after reading other reviews on the site, but it ended up being great. The rooms are ordinary hotel rooms, but our ocean view was beautiful. The pool area is terrific with a small beach. The staff was very helpful and friendly. There are cats but in talking with one of the managers, the hotel partners with the local Humane Society - they feed the cats, and the cats in turn keep the mice away. The food at the resort was the one downfall. We are not buffet people, so the only option that left was the sports bar while we were there because there were private parties in the other restaurant. It had limited options, and I make better sandwiches at home. But with a 15 minute cab ride into Red Hook, there were plenty of other dining options there. The rooms were reasonably priced and the proximity to Red Hook and the ferry to St. John made this a great choice for us.

The resort is in a good location with nice facilties for families. Most of the staff are friendly and effiecient. The main resaurant waitressing staff is not very good, the food is ok - ours was cold for dinner and old confetti garnish on plate for breakfast. The room itself smelled of mildew and the rugs needed cleaning as did the furnishings. The bed/mattress was the worst I have ever slept on - extremly soft; and there was no ventilation in the bathroom. The sand fleas by the pool area and beach were out in force in the early morning and late afternoon and I have many bites that are extremly uncomfortable - take and use bug spray! If they make improvements this could be a really nice place. We visited there week of Feb.14, 2010
