We are a mature couple from Florida and stayed for 5 nights with friends, in April, 2010. There was virtually no maintence or cleaning of common ares. Mold and mildew, rust and broken facilties everywhere. Poll and beach chairs falling apart Jacuzzi not working. Even retaurant tables not cleaned. Staff not interested in any service. Even beds and pillow were old. Food menus were one step above fast food at ten times the price. Would not recommend

My daughter and I stayed at the Morningstar Beach and it was fantastic. The staff was great, the beach was good, and Havana Blue was great in the evenings for a good cocktail and ocean breeze. Take the Fury saliboat over to Buck Island with Captain Mike and snorkel with the sea turtles. No need to go into town. We also enjoyed going up to the hotel...great views and drinks.

I stayed at the Morning Star portion of the resort--perfect location! We were just steps from the beach and 2 great restaurants--Coco Joe's --casual and Havana Blue --excellent evening dining. Another fun and great thing the Marriott offers is a ferry over to Charlotte Amilie. All staff was extremely nice and helpful. Rooms were cleam and comfortable. No complaints!

We visited Frenchman's Reef January 2010. I was really scared of what I would find after reading some of the reviews. After arriving, I felt I was on a different property than a lot of people had described in reviews. I saw no unkept hallways, etc., I saw no rudeness from staff, and our experience was an incredibly nice memory. We had a wonderfully clean room, awesome view, and found the staff to be nothing but completely hospitable, respectful, and genuinely friendly. The view from this hotel is incredible and you will not be sorry you stay here. I travel extensively and feel I am a good judge of hotel properties. Our room was immaculate and was cleaned each day by a housekeeper with a smile always on her face. The lobby and seating areas around the bar inside and outside balconies were always immaculate. The music was great at night. The travel desk was a great plus. The only negative we encounterd was the hotel food at Sunset Cafe but it may be the things we ordered. Of course, hotel food is always a bit known for not being the best. CoCo Joes was a fantastic breakfast, Fat Turtle and Room with a View at the Castle had great food. As did many other local restaurants. Yes, the taxi rides $ each way per person was a bit much but drivers always had a smile and helpful attitude. The food in town was expensive but that is to be expected when supplies have to be flown in. I hope I can go back to Frenchman's Reef next year and I would gladly highly recommend the hotel to my friends and family. I would go back today if possible! it is a gorgeous property with incredible views.

The facility is tired, and the staff seems to reflect the same moribund attitude. You will notice the stale (locker room ) odor that permeates the halls as you approach your room. The sunset grill, has a great location, but the bar has not been reinvested in. There is no drink menu, old glasses and an apathetic staff that serves a menu that has no island imagination. As you walk the boardwalk to the beach you will walk past the rusty fenced tennis courts or turn the other way to the old heliport and the wooden stairs that have collapsed. The rooms are something you might see in a Courtyard in the States. We were also awoken at 3am when someone else's key opened ourr room. Marriott rates their own location as a category 6, which means that nobody from corporate has visited this location since it opened. There are many better places to stay in St Thomas or St John, not even worth the visit.
