The Marriott Frenchmans Reef Hotel is awful!! The hallways smelled of mold and mildew. WE had roaches, the hallways were dirty, the ceiling was decaying and pieces dropping in the room. Trays were left in the hallways for days on end. We will not be staying there ever again.

Went to the Morningstar portion of the resort on our honeymoon and would stay there again. I was scared by some of the bad reviews but I dismissed most of them as people with a gripe. We greeted everybody on the staff with a good morning (or afternoon/evening) and they were all more than happy to help. Certainly not a five star hotel but for anybody on a budget like we were, it was well worth the money. Variety lacking a little from the restaurants but we found plenty of options on the menus and were always happy with our meals and drinks. Beach was so fantastic that we didn't even go to the pools. Bottom line, be nice and treat the staff with respect and they'll take care of you. Yes, things move slowly on the island so be prepared for slow service.

Just returned on 7/7/10 - Have visted St Thomas, St John many times and years ago had a home there with three other couples that we shared for vacations. I have always had a special place in my heart for these islands. BUT the property at Frenchmens Reef to me was very much a disappointment. I stayed in the Harbour View section of the hotel and would not recommend that section of the hotel. The main hotel or Morning Star (which has always been known to be the best if you like being on the beach) seemed to be a bit better but the service seemed poor and slow for a Marriott Hotel. We went to the Ritz ( I have stayed there prior) for dinner, (What a difference) thought this time lets save a bit and stay at the Marriott. Well it is the same as always you get what you pay for. This is not the kind of service I am use to from the Marriott. It was not a horrible experience but I would call the property tired and so were the employees. May want to give some of the smaller hotels a try.......................

We have just returned from our stay at the Marriot Frenchmans Reef. We read SEVERAL reviews of the the hotel and were a little nervous about what we would find. After checking in we were pleasantly surprised and satisfied with what we found. We stayed on the 5th floor so we smelt no musty smell, however we did smell it one day whille walking on a lower level of the hotel. The hotel is not perfect, a little worn or aged, but for the price you can't hardly complain. There were improvements going on around the hotel which is definately encouraging. The food was expensive, but good at the hotel. The beds were very comfortable. The bathroom is small. St. Thomas is a beautiful island, we will definately return and would not hesitate staying at the Marriot.

Good views, but not worth the rest of the package. Room had a mildew smell, prices were ridiculous and service was mediocre at best. Cannot check in before 4pm and when we checked our bags, they lost them. Spoke to many others on the way back to the airport who were displeased too.
